  1. Geography and Climate:

Rautahat is one of the southern Terai districts of Nepal with an area of 1,126 sq. km that lies in province 2. It extends from latitudes 26°50'0”N to 27°10’0”N north and longitudes 85°10'0”E to 85°30'0”E east, the average North-South length of the district is about 45 km and East-West width about 26 km. Altitude differences lead to variation in weather across the district from North to South and contribute to its biodiversity. The district is divided in two topographical zones: the upper tropical zone which ranges in elevation from 300 to 1000 meters (1000-3300 feet) above sea level and the tropical zone area below 300 meters (1000 feet). The district is surrounded by Makwanpur district in the north side (also Sindhuli district attached north-east corner), Bara district in the west, open boarder (Bairganiya) of Bihar state of India in the south and Sarlahi district in the east. The District Headquarters (DHQ), Gaur is 42 km south of the East-West National Highway (Chandrapur). Most of government, non-governmental and other organizations are located Gaur which is headquarter of Rautahat District. Lord Shiva temple of Shivnagar and Paurai, Historical temple of God Durga in Matsari and Lord Krishna temple in Nazarpur are the major religious places of Rautahat District. This makes the entire district in particular a unique pilgrimage site, mainly for Hindus from around the world . Dhanusha average temperature ranges from 10°C and 35°C.
